How to export your bookmarks from Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari
Published 2026-11-08
Every major browser can save your bookmarks as one HTML file. That file is a copy, so exporting changes nothing in your browser. Once you have it, you can keep it as a backup or import it into a bookmark manager.
Chrome, Edge and Brave
- Press Ctrl+Shift+O (Cmd+Shift+O on a Mac) to open the bookmark manager.
- Click the ⋮ menu at the top right and choose Export bookmarks.
- Save the .html file somewhere you can find it.
Firefox
- Press Ctrl+Shift+O to open the Library.
- Click Import and Backup, then Export Bookmarks to HTML.
- Save the file.
Safari
- Choose File, then Export, then Bookmarks.
- Save the .html file.
What the file contains
The HTML file lists your links, their titles and the folders they sit in. It does not include page contents, so a link that has since been taken down will still be listed.
Before you import it
- Keep the original file as a backup.
- Expect duplicates if you imported the same links before. A good importer skips them.
- Run the free dead-link checker on the file to find links that no longer work, so you do not carry them over.
